Know So Salvation

As far as the east is from the west,
so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Psalm 103:12

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits
:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction;
who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's...
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.
He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him...
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.
For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him,
and his righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep
his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

Psalm 103:1-5; 8-11; 13-18.

How do you like our marquee text, today? Is it not grand indeed? Think about, think about it, think about it! As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. I hope you truly understand the significance of that statement.

Folks, I want you to know something: the Word of God tells us we can KNOW we are saved! This is not a "hope so", a "maybe so", or a "trust so" experience! Salvation in Jesus Christ is a KNOW SO experience! He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. I John 5:12,13.

Several years ago at a place I worked, a woman came to me shortly after her lunch break. She was so upset--during the conversation at the lunch table, another lady had said she "knew" she was saved and "on her way to heaven". My co-worker insisted, "None of us can know if we are saved or not, UNTIL we get there." She asked me to confirm that she was right. Needless to say, she got upset with me also when I told her the Bible plainly states we truly can KNOW that we have been saved.

There are many operating under the same confusion as she was and much of it is brought about through the proliferation of countless false doctrines. Christians are buffeted on all sides by various theologies, theories, translations, interpretations, versions, criticism, legalism, opinions, infighting, backbiting, scandal and gossip. All these things serve to cause confusion and uncertainty, which brings on loss of joy and victory in our lives. I Corinthians 14:33 tells us, For God is not the author of confusion...

Know So Salvation

Now understand this: you and I both know of folks who "profess" to be Christians, but have not turned loose of the things of the world--they keep right on sinning. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. I John 1:5-7.

However, for those of us who have turned away from the things of this world, those of us who have left sin behind, those of us who strive to live holy before the Lord--we have assurance after assurance in the Word of God that we can KNOW we are saved. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we KNOW that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. I John 3:22-24.

Know So Salvation

When there is loss of joy in our Christian walk, the pleasure we once felt in living for God reverts to irksome duty, a laborious task. Satan knows if he can keep the pressure of confusion present in our lives, he can create doubt and fear about our salvation experience. All of us know of people who have fallen by the wayside because of the despair which overcame them.

Let me make a statement right here and now: there is coming a day in which the devil will be defeated and cast into the pit that was prepared for him and his angels and NEVER again will he be able to tempt or try us. But until that time comes, we are going to have to arm ourselves with the armor of God and resist him DAILY. Some folks think once they get saved, life becomes a bed of rose petals and there is never another moment of trial or temptation. Oh, we ARE OVERCOMERS by the blood of the Lamb of God, yes, but overcoming comes about through our resistance to that which comes against us!

The devil will war with us any way he can. If he can't get us to sin through temptation, he will torment us through confusion. That's why it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to study and KNOW the Word of God. Many have been led astray through confusion which set up housekeeping in their minds because they followed something that "sounded right". Read and learn the Word of God. Know it for YOURSELF.

Satan is not always "a roaring lion", my friends. Sometimes he's sneaky, weasling his way into our thought life with his various accusations. Anything he can use to cause us to doubt our salvation, he will! Instead of us knowing the Word of God and KNOWING we ARE saved, we spend time "trying" to reassure ourselves that we are saved. And while he's got us bound under this accusation, he brings in others:
  • You weren't baptized the right way."
  • "You were saved as a child. You didn't repent correctly."
  • "If God loves you so much, why are you sick?"
  • "There are billions of people on this earth. Do you think you really matter to God?"
  • "How can YOU say anything to anyone else about God? You aren't perfect."
Understand me well, here now: going through a time of doubt does NOT cancel your salvation, my friends. It is only when you GIVE IN to those doubts and turn from God that you jeopardize your walk with Him. The very best way to deal with any doubt is to combat it with the Word of God. The Bible tells us to Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. II Timothy 2:15. It is by studying the Word of God and learning it that we can take a stand against the doubts and fears that Satan likes to try to plague us with!

Many folks say they are searching for truth. Want me to tell you where to find TRUTH personified? Jesus Christ. In John 8:32, Jesus told the Jews that believed on Him, Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Then in John 14:6, Jesus told Thomas, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Please make sure you notice that Jesus did not say A way, or A truth or A life. He said, I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life. Jesus was not a "philosopher", searching for truth: He IS Truth!

Know So Salvation

Turn in your Bibles and read the 9th Chapter of John. Jesus passed by a man blind from birth. He stopped, spat on the ground, made clay with His spit, and put the mixture on the man's eyes, then told him to Go, wash in the pool of Siloam. The man obeyed, and came back seeing. The man's neighbors took him to the Pharisees, who put all manner of questions to him about his healing. They didn't believe his story--they insisted that his parents come and verify the fact he had been blind from birth. Finally, it all boiled down to this: the once-blind but now-seeing man said, ...ONE THING I KNOW, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. John 9:25.

That same man then went on to enrage the Pharisees with this declaration: Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. John 9:30-33. See what he KNEW?

A Findochty fisherman, converted under James Turner's preaching, was assailed by the enemy, casting doubt on the Word of God. Lying awake one night, his soul was in great conflict with the adversary. His wife heard him say aloud, "God says it in John 6:37." Then after a little time she heard him say, "I'll prove it," upon which he sprang on to the floor, lit a candle, turned to the Bible reference (All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.), and said, "Look at that, and say nae mair."

Know So Salvation

Oh yes, the Salvation we have in Jesus Christ is a KNOW SO Salvation! Therefore if any man be in Christ, he IS a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, ALL things are become new. II Corinthians 5:17. It doesn't say, "He MIGHT BE a new creature..." It doesn't say, "SOMEDAY, he will be a new creature." It says, "He IS a new creature..." Study the Word of God, that you may KNOW the assurances that are there for you, each and every day of your life. ...For I KNOW whom I have believed, and AM PERSUADED that HE IS ABLE to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. II Timothy 1:12.

I Was There When It Happened
(And I Guess I Ought To Know)

There are some people who say we cannot tell
Whether we are saved or whether all is well.
They say we only can hope and trust that it is so
But I was there when it happened and I guess I ought to know.

Yes, I know that Jesus saved me, the very moment He forgave me.
He took away my heavy burden and He gave me peace within.
Satan cannot make me doubt it; that's why I'm going to shout it:
For I was there when it happened and I guess I ought to know.
