Standing on tiptoe, with winnowing wings; Angel choirs silent--quietly listening. Thousands and thousands, up on their toes Awaiting a signal--all ready to go.
Yes, the angels were ready to rescue God's Son From the evil that mortals to Him had done. They stood in silence and watched all the while As Jesus was beaten and mocked in that trial.
Standing on tiptoe, they saw Him abused And weakened to stagger, battered and bruised; Forsaken, rejected, as He climbed that hill, Fully committed to His Father's Will. |
They saw Him bleeding, oh what agony! As Perfect of Perfect, was nailed to a tree. They saw the Father turn back from the sight As His Son hung dying, they readied for flight.
Then still on their tiptoes, they heard the cry, "Father, it's finished!" They watched Jesus die. No call was forthcoming, no flight would there be As Salvation hung there, on Calvary's tree.
Yes, He could have called them from Heaven above, But Salvation was needed, oh what Divine love! Yes, angels on tiptoes, that day in the halls Of Heaven for Jesus, the Savior of all. |
If ever there is a question I am thankful for, it is this one: Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But I am even more grateful for the answer: But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? Matthew 26:53,54.
Yes, I know it's hard to understand why a man--perfect, flawless, without sin, could possibly love mankind so much that He would suffer and die as He did. But you see, had He not done so, there'd be no hope for me, for you, for countless others. Oh, it is so complete a plan, so unerring as only God Our Father can do.
Before Jesus made the Supreme Sacrifice that day on that cruel cross, there was a veil, behind which only the priests could enter, to go into the "holy of holies". That veil on the temple also meant that only the priests could ask for mercy for our souls. But on that day, when the words, "It is finished" were spoken against all that had been done, when the thunder rolled, and the lightning flashed, when the ground shook with earthquakes and the rocks split apart, something else took place.
"It is finished!" Jesus had completed His obedience to the Father's Will. Then our Heavenly Father rent the veil of the temple, from top to bottom, symbolic of the door that had been opened for each of us, and that door is Christ Jesus: I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. John 10:9-11.
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord O my soul! Wrapped in the robes of Salvation, each and every one of us can ...come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16. You see, OUR High Priest did that for us: Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. Hebrews 4:14.
Enduring all that He did, despite the indescribeable agonies He suffered and the weight of our sins which He took upon Himself, He did not call those legions of angels to deliver Him that day. And because they were not summoned, you and I can have eternal Salvation through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Thank You, Jesus! I lift Your name, Jesus! There is none like unto You, my Redeemer. You are Worthy of all praise and honor and glory. For I have a hope in You that can be found in none other. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. |
