Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night. Psalm 91:5Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night. Psalm 91:5 In this day and age that we are living, nothing can rattle our world more quickly than to have what we perceive as our "security" threatened. Whether it is the security (safety) of ourselves and our loved ones, or material possessions in which we have placed our hope of being able to ensure our well-being, mankind strives for security. Something that protects: signed and witnessed documents to guarantee a deal we make; weapons with which to protect ourselves; money, jewelry or investments we own as surety for our futures; measures taken to safeguard our physical well-being.

We strive all our lives to maintain our physical, mental, and financial states. In our day-to-day race to not only maintain a certain standard (level) of life, but then protect it as well, we tend to forget that all of the above are merely temporary. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. II Corinthians 4:18. "Temporal" means temporary.
It is for certain we need various things with which we can maintain a standard of living, of everyday well-being for ourselves and those we love. Yet, in our struggle to maintain those standards, we have lost sight of the ONLY security that goes beyond the grave: eternal security for our souls!

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:19-21.

What do we consider our treasures? That which we own on this earth? For where your treaure is, there will your heart be also. Are this world's material possessions all that we are laying up for our future? Even if you are able to safeguard them, their value to you stops at the grave. Job knew all this: "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return..." He brought nothing with him, he could take nothing with him. He knew that the only security he had was trusting in the Lord: "...Blessed be the name of the Lord."

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Matthew 24:35. Now there's security for you, a guarantee from God. He has the power AND authority to make good on HIS promises, and He does. His promises are guarantees to us: sure and everlasting. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. II Corinthians 1:20.

We fight many battles, we encounter many storms in our lives. Our ability to weather the storms of life are TOTALLY dependent upon our foundation: For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. I Corinthians 3:11-13. And for those who know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, they have this guarantee, this surety: And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's. I Corinthians 3:23.

Allow me to leave with you these assurances of God:

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Psalms 1:1-3.

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. Isaiah 54:17.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one. John 10:27-30.

A final note, my friends: while we have the eternal promises of God, each of them requires a commitment from us. I said, each of them requires a commitment from us. The assurance we find in Psalm 1:1-3 clearly states, "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." Isaiah 54:17 clearly defines its promise to be to the "servants of the Lord". John 10:27-30 designates that its promises are to "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me...". Followers of Jesus, not followers of everything or everybody else. There MUST be a relationship (between God and ourselves) in place for us to be able to stand on the promises of God!

The promises of God are GOOD SECURITY! There is none better! For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. II Corinthians 1:20.

My Heavenly Father Watches Over Me

"I trust in God, wherever I may be:
On mountain's height, or on the stormy sea.
Though billows roll, He keeps my soul,
My heavenly Father watches over me.
I trust in God, I know He cares for me..."
