The Spoken Word 
Matthew 12:34
My daddy used to tell me when I was still quite small to be careful when I spoke,
to choose my speech. I didn't understand then but now I know 'tis true,
the spoken word can steal my victory.
He said, "The devil's listening to everything you say and he will use your words
to bring defeat. But when you live for Jesus, and give Him full control
there's joy in knowing He directs your speech."
But as the years I traveled I often wandered far from Daddy's golden words of
love so wise. And when things would confront me, my actions and my
words were often foolish and so ill-advised.
I joined in idle chatter, and gossip was my game; "off-color" jokes were part
of every day. And yet I ofttimes wondered why mishaps seemed so close,
why everything I said just went that way!
I drifted from my Savior, my life filled with despair; my words were not of
witness, but of shame. My language led to downfall which turned my
life to sin. I played right into satan's verbal game.
I lost my joy and freedom and wondered where they'd went, as daily I gave way
to words inane. Salvation was convenient, I matched it to the crowd;
I had to "guard" my speech, life was insane.
all back in place. Now daily in His likeness, I pray and speak to please
the Master that I serve, Who gave me Grace.
Which Master do I serve? My words do now bespeak as daily I rejoice and go my
way. My well is overflowing with waters oh so sweet; the bitterness
is gone, He fills my day.
My tidings are now joyous, my witness is so true; I know my daddy's words are
still so wise. The spoken word will choose whichever path I take--
It is the spoken word that rules my life.
The spoken word now frees me, I simply state my faith in Jesus Who redeemed my
soul from sin. My spoken words now witness of the changes He has made--
It shows without because He lives within!
My mouth has made confession, my Master it has said is Jesus and Him only will
I serve! In work and deeds and actions, my words dictate my faith:
Praise, honor, glory, just what He deserves!
