For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. Luke 12:2,3.
If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange God; Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Psalm 44:20,21.
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. Psalm 90:8.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13,14.
Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord. Jeremiah 23:24.
...Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him...there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets. Daniel 2:20-22,28.
...God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ... Romans 2:16.
Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. Matthew 6:2-6,17,18.We want everyone to know our acts of charity, how much we "give to God", how long we pray or how long we've been fasting, but we then turn right around and do things we're not supposed to do and think no one knows it! We canNOT place the blame for that lie on Satan--we are deceiving ourselves! Know this: There is NOTHING HID which shall not be manifested ! (Mark 4:22, Luke 8:17). He Who is our Eternal Judge, He Who knows our thoughts even BEFORE we think them sees everything that we do. It is IMPOSSIBLE to hide ANYTHING from God!!!
O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Psalm 139:1,2. Everything that we do, and even what we say, BEFORE we say it, God knows. "Secret" or "hidden" sins do NOT exist so far as God is concerned. The ONLY "secret" or "hidden" sins we have are those we are hiding from other people--NOTHING is hidden from God! We think if "nobody saw us do it", we are safe from discovery. But Somebody saw it: Somebody knows it and THAT Somebody is God!
Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Psalm 139:3,4. Doesn't matter how secretive we are about what we say and do, GOD KNOWS IT! People try to defend their sin by quoting scriptures about God's Grace, but let me make this very plain: The Grace of God is NOT a license to sin, either in open OR in secret! What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Romans 6:1,2.
Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Psalm 139:5,6. [So-called] "Christians" cannot get a grip on comprehending that God knows everything! We measure Him by our own limitations, but it is not so! He is all-powerful and limitless. He created all things and knows ALL things. Folks say they "don't understand" why God doesn't step in and stop sin, but then we keep right on sinning (and trying to hide it)! We wouldn't be happy if He kept us from doing that which we want to do! So we go our merry little ways, hiding our sins from those around us, putting on our "Sunday Faces" (on the week-end). We dress up in our finery and shake hands with the very ones we gossip about and condemn all week long, then whine when an ill wind blows our way and we can't be victorious over it.
Oh Lord, have mercy on me! Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. Psalm 139:7,8. These passages of scripture should be of great comfort to those of us who profess to know the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, but they also serve as a DIRE WARNING: we need to REMEMBER, there is no escaping the knowledge of God. He knows EVERYTHING we say and do!
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matthew 5:27,28. Jesus Christ, Himself, said it! We "think" if we don't act on our thoughts, we are blameless, but that's not what Jesus said! We think if we "whisper" our malicious lies, or we hide the harm we have done someone behind a complex plan, no one will know we did it. Wrong! Nobody "gets away" with anything before God. No matter how high the mountain, how low the depths of the sea or how far into space we go, there is NO hiding from God!
We think if the pastor didn't see it, we're ok. If our wife (or husband) doesn't find it out, no harm was done; if the other members of the church board don't know, we aren't accountable for it. WRONG! Neither the pastor, our wife, our husband or any member of any board can forgive sin. Oh, they can forgive the hurt we may have done them, but the forgiveness of sin is strictly and ONLY through Jesus Christ. It is through Him that we must apply for forgiveness of sin!
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. Psalm 139:9,10. It doesn't need to be translated, dummied down, made plainer. There we have it: if we try to hide our sin under the cover of darkness, God still sees it because the dark of night and the light of day are the same with Him--He sees all in darkness and in light!
"The world" wants to determine when a baby is "a being" in their attempts to justify murder by abortion, yet in Psalm 139: 13-16 we read: For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
Before our mothers even knew they were expecting us, God knew us! It should be VERY obvious that "the world" does NOT care what God knows. Those of us who profess to be "followers of Christ" are supposed to be aware of that "all-seeing eye" of God, but all we are concerned about is who, on earth, knows of our sins! The catch-phrase of the age is, "It isn't wrong if you didn't get caught!" Sin separates us from God! Instead of us sinning and then trying to hide it, the Bible tells us we are to Abstain from ALL APPEARANCE of evil. (I Thessalonians 5:22). Do you see anything in there that says, "abstain only from that which you don't get caught doing?" I didn't either.
There are those who say we cannot live "sinless" lives! Oh yes we can, but it takes more effort than most are willing to put forth! Who of us are so foolish as to think God doesn't know the difference between "willful sinning" and simple error? You know why we claim we cannot live "sinless lives"? We don't want to give up the things of the world! However, we need to remember of Whom we are a witness! We need to remember that others ARE watching us (and I'm not talking about just other "so-called Christians"). Those who don't know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior are watching us and our lives! They see if we are what we profess to be! So what are we showing them?
Oh Lord, have mercy on me! NO wonder "the world" doesn't have any confidence in this Jesus we profess to know! They don't see any changes in us or our behavior, even though we profess to be followers of Christ! If us knowing Jesus Christ hasn't made any changes in us, why do they need Him? Hello?
