Four Little Words |
|
| "Your Will, Your Way" |

I went to see an old lady I'd known for many years; Her voice weak, her life near o'er--but her smile still full of cheer. We talked, then as I rose to leave, she wanted us to pray. I learned the secret of her peace: four words, "Your Will, Your Way"
Now I admit that I was stunned; it took me to my knees. I fought and fought against the thought, I was so displeased! No matter how I word my prayers, no matter what I say, I must be willing to accept, Lord, it's "Your Will, Your Way"
It's hard to say, but I admit, for longer than I care To tell, I tried to boss the Lord just how and when and where. When things were not what I had asked, I'm glad He ruled the day: For now I know how wrong I was; it is, "Your Will, Your Way"
Then further in the lesson He loved me enough to send, The thought came through that "in the way" was where for years I'd been! Just who am I to tell the Lord? Whatever could I say? Just four simple little words: they are, "Your Will, Your Way" |

For years I'd heard (and sang it, too), "Have Thine Own Way, Lord"; Fine words, if just my heart and mind had been in one accord! But when I seek to reach the Lord, my needs to Him convey-- It must be that His Will be done; it is, "Your Will, Your Way"
That means I must now cancel schemes and give up all control; I cannot dictate any terms with power I don't hold. It cannot be my plots that work: they're weak and will decay. Whate'er my plans, He's in command; it is "Your Will, Your Way"
Your Will, Your Way, Lord, in Your place, that's how it's always been. Your watch wears different time than mine; You know how things will end! Those four small words my stubborn pride fought hard to never say, Have brought relief as ne'er before: Yes, Lord, "Your Will, Your Way"
