In the deepest of my dungeons, In the darkest of despair; There was only one name spoken And its Owner found me there.
When no one would stop to listen To my cries of agony-- Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus Came and set the captive free.
Everything was gone that mattered; All my gain had turned to loss. There was no one to console me, No one dared to bear my cross.
Broken outward, shattered inward, All I had was misery. Yet He knew just what I needed And He gave me joy complete.
When I called His name He heard me, Then He took away my pain. As He shouldered all my burdens And removed sin's crimson stain.
With a heart torn all to pieces From the ache and hurt I bore-- Jesus took the broken remnants, Made me whole again once more.
Wrapped in garments now that glisten Whiter than the driven snow-- Gone forever is the heartache Of a life I used to know.
Life's dark dungeon now can't hold me; From sin's fetters I am free. All the bonds that He has broken Now lay scattered at His feet.
I am now no longer prisoner Of my sins and awful shame. Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus, Praise and Honor to Your Name!
